Old Airport Road as its name implies, was the eastern boundary of the former Kallang Airport, the first purpose-built civil airport in Singapore. After the closure of the Kallang Airport, the area around Old Airport Road was redeveloped into a residential estate, known today as the “Old Kallang Airport Estate”. Previously, the road ended on the western bank of the Geylang River, but was later extended eastwards to connect with Dunman Road.

In 1972, Old Airport Road Food Centre was established to relocate street hawkers from the Kallang Estate, and since then, it has remained one of Singapore’s favorite hawker destinations, offering wallet-friendly local fare. The hawker center takes its name from its proximity to Singapore’s inaugural civilian airport, Kallang Airport, constructed by the British in 1937.

This is because there are actually 2 levels to it with the first level being the food eatery place and the Second Floor is a quieter place that not many visit but there are still shops around. Some are selling clothes and textiles although many of the stalls are closed. Many are own by the grandmothers who are relatively old and are just chilling out there so it would be nice if you can drop by to walk around and take a look when u have the time.

Chef Wang Fried Rice is known for their pork chop fried rice. Although there are alot of similar kinds of Fried rice and many has their differing opinions many are a fan of Chef Wang fried. With the pork chop that is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside giving it the perfect bite. Even without the chilli, it still hits just as good. It was opened by ex-Ding Tai fung chef and has definitely lived up to the hype.
