Newton Food Centre(纽顿熟食中心), located in Newton, Singapore, stands as a prominent hawker center renowned for its diverse culinary offerings. Initially established in 1971, it was promoted by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) as a prime destination for experiencing authentic Singaporean cuisine. However, in 2005, the government decided to undergo a revamp of the food center, leading to its temporary closure.
Following a significant renovation, Newton Food Centre reopened its doors to the public on July 1, 2006, welcoming both locals and tourists alike to indulge in its array of delectable dishes.
There are 83 stalls and they are arranged in a horseshoe configuration, featuring the same hawkers who cooked their own-style local favourites like barbecue stingray, fishball noodles, popiah, satay and fried oyster omelette. These are only just a few of the many delicious food in the traditional open-air layout, adding to its charm and authenticity. Some might say its hot, but if the food is good then is it worth it? Well I think so.

A Floral Newton Food Centre
More than 50 species of flowers, including pink frangipani, wedelia creepers and several species of palms, have been planted around the food centre area, especially at the main entrance and around the seats in the middle section of the hawker centre. These plants had been incorporated into the landscape to re-create a plantation feel.
The newly built food centre follows the design elements from the nearby old colonial houses featuring colour scheme of the food centre is white, black and brown and the ceilings are seven metres high, ensuring cross-ventilation and a cooler environment. This design complements the floral area well as adds a nice colour to Newton Food Centre, so the next time you are there, i hope you will be able to spot some of these flowers!
