There are many reasons why this chain of eatery has sprouted so rapidly in Singapore. WOK HEY is Cantonese-styled to-go food at its best, just check out the WOK HEY menu and you’ll be surprised at the choices of food you can try!
As its name mentions, the magic of Cantonese-styled cooking is in its ability to produce the slightly charred fragrance on the food known as “锅气” or translated as “breath of the wok”. WOK HEY has managed to interpret and commoditize the Asian stir-fry staples menu of renowned restaurants to your everyday enjoyment.
About WOK HEY
Founded in 2017 as a modern, fast-casual, convenient take-out kiosk, WOK HEY started with a mission to transform asian stir-fry staples to a global mainstream category in the take-out segment. By offering tasty, nutritional, value-for-money, customizable fri-to-order wok dishes, they have managed to capture the hearts and mouths of many Singaporeans. To top that up, WOK HEY is also Halal certified.

WOK HEY Signature Dishes
WOK HEY offers five primary categories of stir-fry dishes. Mainly egg fried rice, shanghai fried rice, fresh ramen, fresh udon, and a healthy version caulirice.
Egg Fried Rice
It is an ingenious idea from WOK HEY to introduce the egg fried rice to many new to cantonese stir-fried cuisine. While rice and eggs may sound simple ingredients that can be found in every household, it takes modern innovation to bring it to the next level of more than home cooked food. Like how Uncle Roger gives his take on how to cook egg fried rice, it is sure to be a FUIYOOOH from him that WOKHEY’s egg fried rice has been introduced to the additional topping of seasoned succulent prawns and tobiko, or prawn roe.
Fried Ramen or Fried Udon
Another dish that has caught our eye is the fried ramen or udon selection that they offer. Just like any zichar stall or cantonese restaurants with offerings of fried rice or noodles variety, WOK HEY focuses on noodles such as ramen and udon, giving the extra chew to the meal if rice is not a preference.
WOK HEY also runs special menu items such as truffle fried rice and truffle udon and healthier options with brown rice to replace the japanese short grain used in their cooking.
Ordering from WOK HEY
If you think fried rice and noodles is all they have to offer, this is where things get interesting. WOK HEY listens to the customer by providing flexibility in their modern approach. Customisation allows one to pick their favourite ingredients into the dish, enhancing flavour to the individual’s taste.
There is also a further option of choosing additional ingredients for $1 in the dish. The ingredients include cranberries, macadamia nuts, sous vide egg, chicken chinese sausage, edamame, and other on menu items.
WOK HEY Open Kitchen Concept
The once “open” secret that WOK HEY sure knows how to build is the UX or user experience of the customers. The open glass in front of the chefs’ stoves allows customers to witness the performance of how food is prepared in front of their eyes, from wok to table (or box in this case). It is also fascinating and puzzling at the same time that the wok is being heated on a flameless stove. But in fact it is a wok style induction cooker.
Perhaps it is an innate child-like curiosity of many that love the experience of a live performance of the chefs. Just like how some restaurants perform kung fu noodles right in front of your eyes, such a feat makes the meal a more satisfying one. The open glass concept has definitely captured the attention, hearts, and trust of many customers.
The performance starts with the chef preparing a set of ingredients according to the order to be cooked. Setting it all aside, it is time for the wok to be heated and performance to begin. We will keep the magical process of the frying a suspense for now, or else it wouldn’t be as interesting to watch would it?
WOK HEY is definitely a food joint to check out for a quick fix of the cantonese-style stir fried cooked food. A bowl (box) of heartwarming egg fried rice with the cheapest ingredients can produce the richest dining experience one can have.
