Han's Union
I've been a regular patron of Hans Bakery for almost 40 years; it's an old-school bakery serving cakes and pastries, with a breakfast and all-day menu added over the years. The restaurant at Jurong Gateway is spacious and clean. Their cakes are very good - I love their Black Forest, Tiramisu, and Chocolate Truffle Cakes. Their coffee is nice too.
Usual spot for dining during Christmas as there is no long Q. They usually have a special Christmas menu which we tried. Seabass was fresh and good. Value for money. Big piece of fish. Salad and potatoes are very tasty too. Highly recommended.
Had dinner there and ordered the Tiger Prawn Laksa and Herbal Chicken. The order came pretty fast, so I thought maybe it wouldn't be that good. But the Laksa was actually better than average. Thick gravy with lemak, and just enough spiciness that didn't overpower the sauce. The prawns though were just normal, and weren't all that fresh. The Herbal Chicken (with rice) was really good. Tender and Juicy, and you could literally taste the danggui in the sauce (Angelica root), although it was a lower grade version. I found it a little too salty though. Overall I found that given the privacy, quietness and air-conditioning, maybe the price was justified. The decor though felt at odds with one another, and really cheap. However being just above average hawker fare, I thought it was really overpriced (which technically it was), having dined at Han's restaurants for over 2 decades and seen the huge price increase. $5 to make it a set is actually overkill. I would say $3 or $3.50 is more justified for a standard drink (coffee/tea/canned drink) and a very small bowl of soup. On average you would be spending around $15 to $25 per meal per person. Given the taste and ambiance, I think the prices arent justified when you consider that you can find nicer cafes below the prices here. Service though, was very good. The staff were attentive and helpful, even the school-going part timers. And very polite as well! If you want a quiet place to dine, with good local food, then I'll pick this spot over the food court at level 5.
Traditional kopi o gao here is really perfectly made, great and strong aroma of coffee ☕👍🏻 Fantastic and good place for either single, small group or family gathering, with good coffee and nice food, especially now Han's menu offers a wide variety choice of food and dessert too Most important is their staff is very friendly and helpful 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Ordered Signature Hor Fun Overall food is warm but gravy seemed cold. Table wasn't properly cleaned. Had to use my own wet tissue. Environment is pleasant for a dining experience.
