chanced upon this restaurant from walking around. wanted some vegetables and seems like not many places in vivo offered that. i recommend the lala mixian hotpot, flavourful and addictive! was also pleasantly surprised they managed to get the claypot doumiao tasting like an actual chinese restaurant standard. claypot tofu was alright, since i personally prefer the softer-skin kind. prices were very reasonable and wallet friendly too!

Ordered three dishes: luncheon meat fried rice, sambal sotong, and qinglong vegetables. The luncheon meat fried rice arrived lukewarm, so we sent it back. When it came again, it was at least warmer, but so oily it was honestly hard to eat (see photo). For a claypot restaurant, serving food hot should be the bare minimum, not something customers have to ask for. The sambal sotong had the same issue. Lukewarm and pretty forgettable. At that point, we were already tired of sending dishes back and just ate it as is. The qinglong vegetables were the only saving grace of the meal and the only dish we genuinely enjoyed. To be fair, the service staff were polite and handled the situation professionally, which we appreciated. But good service can only do so much when the food itself is consistently underwhelming. Overall, it’s hard to understand how a claypot restaurant struggles with the concept of serving piping hot food. There’s definitely room to learn from places like Lau Wang, where heat, flavour, and execution are done right.

Riverside Canton Claypot Cuisine (江边广东砂锅菜) at VivoCity appears to be a popular spot, given that the dining room was almost completely full when we visited during a weekday lunch rush. The demand certainly suggests they are doing something right, creating a high-energy, busy atmosphere perfect for a quick, hearty meal. Extensive Menu and Claypot Focus The menu here is impressively large, offering a wealth of choices that cater to various preferences. The core of the menu is centered around traditional Cantonese claypot dishes, available in both individual servings (perfect for a solo diner or a simple lunch) and larger, sharing portions. Diners can select from different base carbohydrates, including noodles and rice options. For our individual orders, we opted for a few classics: the signature Claypot Chicken Rice, Sesame Chicken, and Luncheon Meat Fried Rice. The Verdict on the Food On the palate, the dishes were undoubtedly tasty and rich in flavor, successfully delivering that comforting, savory Cantonese profile you’d expect from this type of cuisine. The Claypot Chicken Rice had good depth, and the Sesame Chicken was aromatic. However, a noticeable drawback across the board was the liberal use of oil. Every dish we ordered—the claypot, the sesame chicken, and even the fried rice—was a bit too oily. While this likely contributes to the richness and flavor, it made the dishes feel heavy and detracted slightly from the overall enjoyment. It is something the kitchen could definitely improve upon to make the meal feel cleaner. Service Experience The service was a bit of a mixed bag. The staff were dedicatedly going about their chores, but they maintained a distinctly expressionless demeanor, giving off a reserved or perhaps simply hyper-focused vibe. We did find, however, that they were perfectly friendly and helpful whenever we engaged them directly to place an order or make a request. In summary, Riverside Canton Claypot Cuisine offers robust flavors and a popular, busy environment, making it a reliable choice for a Cantonese fix at VivoCity. If they could address the excessive oiliness in the cooking, it would significantly elevate the dining experience from good to great.

Review: Canton Claypot Cuisine @ Vivo City We were drawn in by the queue and full house, but honestly, it didn’t quite live up to the hype — I’d even question their Google rating. The claypot and rice bucket concept is interesting, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The Signature Fragrant Spicy Sauce Grilled Sea Bass was underwhelming — the fish didn’t taste fresh, and the supposed spicy, fragrant sauce was bland. Not what I expected from a signature dish. The Luncheon Fried Rice was okay, with some wok hei, but nothing memorable. The Braised Pork Belly was tender enough but overly sweet, which masked the richness of the meat. Overall, Canton Claypot Cuisine has a neat concept, but key dishes fail to impress. A 3-star experience — might be worth trying if you’re curious, but don’t expect a standout meal.

The Grilled Fish with Bee Hoon caught my eyes when passing-by this restaurant!! So went in to try it!! It's really must try !! Just that I felt the Bee Hoon is not that much, next time I will add additional beehoon or Maggie mee. The fish should be a barramundi, their Barramundi is very Fresh!! Dont have the "mud taste" which usually our elder comment n dont like. Definitely will come back again and bring my family n friends.
