Tai Chong Kok 大中国 @ Tampines Mall
WORST Kuih kapit ever 👎👎👎👎👎 2/1/26 - Was attracted by the Kuih kapit (folded Love letters) priced at $15.80 for a mid size plastic container. The staff said it was obtained from a supplier and not made by Tai Chong Kok as their focus is on Nian Gou during CNY. As it was labelled as Kuih Kapit, I guessed the love letters must be Made in Malaysia as that is its Malaysian name. And I believe Malaysian Kuih Kapit is authentic and yummy based on my past experiences with those made in Malaysia. But this Kuih Kapit with the Tai Chong Kok sticker is a BIG FAIL 👎👎👎👎👎 Pale, not eggy, faintest whiff of coconut, and not sweet at all. It’s just a bland, light yellow overpriced wafer cookie that really puts you off love letters forever! Yes it’s that bad. It costs $15.80 so I won’t throw it out. Have been feeding my dogs a few pieces each till the last cookie. Even the $5.95 golden tin of Kuih Kapit sold at Sheng Siong is better than this version. Trust me. Don’t waste your $15.80.
Risk breaking your tooth if attempting the baked mooncake pastry (piggy/ cartoon no filling mooncake) Texture is as hard as a rock~ without exaggeration. In fact, a family member broke part of her tooth trying to bite into these pastries :(
Honestly I love 大中国 Tai Chong Kok a lot But today I’m utterly disappointed when I bought the ( more lor sor) in Cantonese Usual texture should be hard n crispy As you can see my uploaded pictures Now it has shrunk in terms of size The textile has softened and easily broken The old original days were gone And I’m hoping they really maintain their standards Will take a look more meticulously at the texture before purchasing next time Today I bought above from the Tampines mall branch
Went there on 15/7/24Mon and bought a piece of traditional double yolk mooncake at $18.50. Tried and its nice and sweet.
The ladies here are very friendly and welcoming although I may not purchase anything, the way they explain to me makes me feel wonderful.
