Toast Box

We stopped by Toast Box at Jewel Changi Airport for a quick meal, and it was a mixed bag with some pleasant surprises. ​The Highlights: ​Mee Rebus: This was the star of the meal! It was very good—much better than we expected from a chain outlet. The gravy was rich, flavorful, and had the right consistency. Definitely a dish I'd order again. ​Polo Bun (菠萝油): This was done just right. It’s surprisingly difficult to find a place that nails the butter-to-bun ratio, but they did it here. The butter was cold while the bun was still warm, creating that perfect contrast in temperature and texture. ​Coffee: Good standard Toast Box coffee—strong, aromatic, and consistent. ​The Miss: ​Soft Boiled Eggs: Unfortunately, these were undercooked and a bit too watery for my liking. They lacked that perfect, slightly set white that you look for in a good half-boiled egg. Cakes: The Gula Melaka cake was decent, but lacking a bit of the Gula Melaka flavour. Banana cake was also average and just a bit dry. ​Overall, a solid option at Jewel if you're craving local favorites, especially the Mee Rebus and Polo Bun.

Multiple feedback has been raised regarding your drink packaging. The coffee frequently leaks, causing inconvenience and mess. Please look into improving the packaging quality, especially considering that your coffee is priced at nearly double that of neighbourhood coffee shops — and yet their packaging does not leak at all.

Is it required for all of the frontline staff to be rude? Not my first time to encounter this as I live nearby. There is also a communication barrier since the staff today 30Nov at 9:52am are not purely locals. I ordered the cheese toast set, but in the receipt it was made ala carte. The milo was hot, I needed it iced. One more bad experience was the guy who was preparing the drink, trying to point at the small plate where the hot milo goes on my tray (mind you he was talking in low volume); when I didn’t understand him, he started to aggressively prepare the drink.

I've had the pleasure of observing the staff at this location, and I must commend them on their efficiency and customer-focused approach. They consistently deliver excellent service. During my visit at 7:20 am, I noticed that while the staff are friendly and attentive, there's room for improvement in terms of discipline and embracing a customer-centric culture, particularly compared to the NEX location. One area for improvement is the noise level among staff, including the female service providers, who tend to converse loudly in the morning before operations begin. Encouraging a more subdued and professional atmosphere during this time would enhance the overall customer experience.

Not sure if its just today since I have tried tea from many different toastbox outlets, but the teh gao served here today is really nice! Tea is strong and creamy without being too sweet!
