YUN NANS
Hands down one of the best restaurants (in terms of food) I’ve ever eaten at in Singapore. Almost everything was delicious; we ordered quite a bunch and everything stood out, except for the Traditional Baked Rose Pastries which were underwhelming. Would give this place a 5-star if it wasn’t for one of the waiters who rolled his eyes at us just because we said we wanted the takeaway pastry to be served later after we ate. And he was the one who asked whether we wanted it later or together with the meal. Kind of rude I must say, considering the waitress lady was nice. Even more so at a prestige restaurant in Jewel; not somewhere I would expect of getting the attitude from. Would definitely come again to try their other dishes tho, since the food was amazing.
Went to Yun Nans at Jewel on a Tuesday afternoon and we had a satisfying meal. We decided to add on the baked Australian cream pumpkin with salted egg, and it did not disappoint at all. The pumpkin was soft and sweet, coated generously with rich salted egg sauce — very comforting and addictive. We also had the egg fried rice, which had a nice wok hei aroma and the rice was 粒粒分明, not clumpy. The 手撕包菜 was full of flavour — the tender cabbage was stir-fried with dried chillies, giving it a nice fragrance without being too spicy. The hotplate bursting tofu with spicy garlic sauce paired perfectly with the fried rice — 非常下饭. Although the dishes were just a tad oily and salty, but the staff mentioned that we could let them know next time and they would adjust according to our preference, which is very thoughtful. Overall, the food was flavourful and comforting. A great spot for a fuss-free meal at Jewel.
Some food were hit some food were misses. The poached fish with pickle veg broth was amazing. Probably the best 酸菜鱼 I've tasted so far. It was more fragrant than numbing spicy. The broth was amazing. Must order that one. The cabbage was good, the garlic prawns were good. The dishes that I think can give it a miss is the clear chicken soup, to be honest it wasn't rather bland and I felt it wasnt anything special. The 辣子鸡 chicken stir fried in chilli was alright only as well, the chicken is deep fried in a batter and tasted like it had more batter than chicken meat. We did had to wait almost one hour when we arrived (walk in only) for a table of 6. We were served by a bubbly Malaysian chinese girl whom we forgot the name but she was nice and jovial.
A lovely Chinese restaurant with great ambiance and friendly service. The menu is quite extensive — best for groups since the dishes are meant for sharing, but there are also single-plate options like fried rice or noodles for solo diners. I had the noodles and grilled mala chicken — both delicious and generous portions! 🫶 They also served a small appetizer, crispy crackers with mala chili, which was tasty. Ordering is easy via QR code — quick and convenient. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a good meal before or after your flight
Had very good Yunan food at Jewel. Love the claypot garlic Toufu, garlic fried cabbage & salted pork soup. Love the chicken Lo hei take.
