Bugis Xin Yuan Ji 新源记

One of my preferred fish soup go-to -place. Served with huge portion of thick batang fish and ample greens. Soup is thick and milky rich with umami. Staff always cheery and helpful with us (w 2 kids). The low star rating really does no justice to this outlet and the hardworking team.

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this amazing fish store. The taste is delightful, with no strong 'fishy' smell or flavor that often puts me off. It's clear that the fish is fresh, has the quality. The condiments come with freshly cut chillies that add just the right amount of spice. The service is good as well. The staff are friendly, attentive. I've never had to queue for long, maybe because it's off peak hours. Overall, I recommend it to anyone who loves fresh, delicious fish soup. Actually I've come back a few times already. Worth a try!

First time ordering from Xin Yuan Ji and I quite like it. The soup was flavorful and the vermicelli (mee sua) soaked up the soup, making each mouthful of vermicelli so satisfying. The Mala King Oyster Mushroom was also very delicious. It was not too spicy.

Tucked away in a corner near Food Republic, they have their own seatings so it is very cosy. I have been to the Tan Quee Lan and Guoco Tower stores, it is now especially convenient as I do not have to go and queue at their Tan Quee Lan store. The fishes were fresh and their standards are quite well maintained so I get equally good food every outlet I visited. Thank you Xin Yuan Ji. I ordered a Mala Double Boiled Fish Soup with thin Bee Hoon, it is really yummy!!

The freshness of the fish meat really stands out in this soup. But the star of the show is the rich and flavourful broth - I always finish the entire bowl! It truly deserves its title as my ultimate comfort food.
