Fun Toast
Kitty and I recently stopped by Fun Toast at Suntec City Mall for a taste of traditional Singaporean coffeehouse culture. With its history dating back to 1941 (originally Kheng Nam Hong), Fun Toast promised a unique experience, and we were eager to see if it lived up to the hype. We were surprisingly early at Suntec, around 7 AM, because we had to attend a baking lesson. Since Fun Toast was one of the few places open that early, we decided to grab breakfast there. It had actually been quite a while since we'd tried Fun Toast, as we usually have breakfast at other places. We decided to go with the classics, ordering the T7 Egg Mayo Toast Set for $6.50 and the T4a Kaya Butter Toast Set W Eggs for $6.20, bringing our total to $12.70. We were pleasantly surprised by the Kaya Butter Toast Set. They were quite generous with the kaya and butter, and unlike some other places, they gave us two full slices of toast. Kitty also mentioned that her Egg Mayo Toast was quite tasty. The coffee, while not the best we've ever had, was reasonably good. Overall, Fun Toast is a nice place to chill, and if you're at Suntec early in the morning, it's a good spot to have breakfast. One interesting thing we noticed was that the soy sauce and pepper weren't in bottles, but rather came in tiny packets.
The honey lime sour plum was pretty standard—made with premixed syrup and sweetened water. Not exactly healthy, but that’s how most cafes do it anyway. We also tried two special toast options (can’t remember the name, but it was part of a parent special meal set), and they were great!
Service definitely needs to improve. We patiently waited at the counter for an extended period of time before the staff finally acknowledged our presence. It was disappointing to see that despite us being directly in front of them, they chose to carry on with their own conversations without addressing our need to be attended to. At least, acknowledge and ask us to wait for awhile. It goes without saying that even the quality of the food and beverages does not justify a return visit.
Friendly staff guy and lady and reasonable price. Love their ice tea, bao and Siu Mai.
Came at 3:20pm on 24th July. Female service staff at the counter was rude and not hospitable. No greeting or acknowledgement. Yawning while taking our order with a slight bang at the counter. Please train your staff or at least put someone that is more willing to serve at the counter.
