Ya Kun Kaya Toast

Super long queue and short handed. Knowing is the peak hour in the morning but only find 1 staff at the counter preparing coffee and payment. Not sure what the management is thinking! Very bad manpower planing skills.

Perfectly half-boiled eggs, crunchy homemade toast, thick slabs of butter, flavoursome kaya. Now that I’m based overseas, these are the tastes that I look forward most to when I briefly return to Singapore. This Ya Kun outlet is in the basement near one of the Serangoon MRT exits. It has quite a lot of seating available. You can also buy Yakun branded kaya in glass bottles and even travel packs which make nice souvenirs.

Warm, hot, humid, expensive, not authentic taste, self service. First time went to this outlet, quite disappointed with their outlet design. Ordered set A. 2 big egg yolks with 1 Kaya and butter bread cut into 4 small piece. Although the butter is large but I don't feel it's worth the price for daily consumption. They do accept AIA Vitality voucher, Paywave, cash

Yakun's toast used to be well toasted, crispy outside and good amount of kaya inside. Not sure why these days, all of their toasts are default burnt - these are very bad for health and can be carcinogenic. Previously when I asked the staff for less burnt, staff was also quite grumpy. And they always like to start closing and soft chasing customers 15min earlier than closing time.
